Happy Dog

May 29th, 2007

Our friends with the yacht have a dog.  The dog refuses point blank to perform any sort of bodily function on the boat. They have tried everything, including having a piece of turf on the boat.  So, this refusal on the part of the dog to cock his leg when he needs to requires them to inflate a little dinghy, put the dog in it, put on flippers and swim over to the nearest piece of land so that the dog can do the necessary.  This includes in the middle of the night if needed.  People are funny about their pets.  Seems a lot of work just to make a dog happy.  Would I do it for my dog Max?  Of course I would!  Silly question! I think the drink in Gail’s hand is a nice touch…our friends do have a lot of style!

Buck Island

May 29th, 2007

My last day on the island.  I spend it on Buck Island…in fact we went overnight on a friends yacht so that I’d wake up to a pristine beach, no people, clear water and blue sky’s. I slept well as the boat gently lolled back and forth in a rocking motion that was very soothing.  Seeing as I will be traveling back to Colorado via San Juan, then Newark and onto Denver and it will be a 14 hour day, a good nights sleep was important.

Hurricanes

May 27th, 2007

Oh yes…just one final thought.  We also have Hurricanes in St. Croix.

Not this weekend though…this weekend was perfect.

Beached! Or should I say "Rocked?"

The Prize Giving

May 27th, 2007

After two days of racing the Champions emerge and BAZZA is appointed to the task of congratulation the winners and handing out the prizes.  Is there a better task anywhere than this? I don’t think so…it was a great day.

Everyone loved the BAZZA, the competition was fierce but there were not protests lodged at the end of the day (a rare event in sailing).

The last shot of the day...

Right Side Up

May 27th, 2007

Once the boat is “right side Up” the crew has to get back on board.  Not the easieste of tasks actually.

Disaster on Day 2

May 27th, 2007

Day Two of the Regatta

This is a “Laser” boat. It is not a box in the water, more of a streak of lightening!  The trouble with Lasers though is that they are temperamental, as this crew found out.  They took a tight turn, too tight and disaster struck!

Mass Confusion?

May 27th, 2007

Here are a group of “OPTIS” tacking and it looks like mass confusion.  It appears that they are all about to crash into each other, but they don’t.  These kids know what they are doing.

Judges Boat

Here I am, enjoying the day on one of the judges boats.  Sponsors get to do that!

This is what I mean when I say a Box with a sail on it!

Bazza Sponsors Junior Sailing Regatta

May 26th, 2007

BAZZA, our unique Energy Tea is sponsoring the Memorial weekend Junior Sailing Regatta at the St. Croix Yacht Club.  As you can imagine the U S Virgin Islands is a Mecca for sailing and we have produced a number of Olympians and World Champions.  The kids first learn to sail in “OPTIS” which look like square boxes with a sail on them.  But, these boys and girls have been on and in the water since they were knee high to a grasshopper and they really know how to scoot these little boats through the water.  Like our other sponsorship, US Rugby, the youth of this country have the future of their sports well in hand from what I have seen.
