I’m Back

October 29th, 2007

I am slowly readjusting to jet lag and being back in the USA.  For anyone who travels long distances the early morning loneliness is a common feature of their life. You wake up when the rest of the world is fast asleep.  You can watch old movies on the TV or you can look outside and watch the sun come up.  I did the latter and caught this fabulous shot of the Swans on top of the Disney hotel where I am staying.  Today i am back on the road.  One more important sales call to make and then its back to Denver tomorrow.  Its been  long road trip.  It will be good to be back home.

Fancy Dress Party

October 28th, 2007

The show also includes a fancy dress party.  The theme was New Orleans and mystery.  The sales team (that’s Gareth on the left and Paul on the right) got into the spirit of the event.  I felt a little like ZORRO, with the mask and kept bumping into things but a good time was had by all.  Life is not
all work.

Tea To Go

October 26th, 2007

We are all set up and ready to go!  On the left is our new “tea to go” concept…Patent pending by the way for any competitors who are reading this.  It allows the consumer to take home a half gallon of tea with their Popeye’s Chicken meal!!  It was a great success.

Quite A Bridge

October 25th, 2007

I am on my way to Orlando. To get there I have to cross the bridge across the Tampa Bay. It is quite a bridge.

A Work Of Art

October 25th, 2007

Its like a work of art.

October 25th, 2007

I am on my way to Disney World for the “Popeye’s Chicken” Convention.  These Disney folks do not loose a single opportunity to advertise.  Look how they string their power line across the Interstate.  Now that is clever

marketing!!

Back In NY

October 24th, 2007

Back in the USA

There is no mistaking that I am back in NY.  Wall to wall traffic and the Van Wyck expressway snarling with traffic. Paris seems an age away and it was only two days ago…work beckons, jet lag is upon me, but at least they all speak English here. But here’s a funny thing….THE NY TAXIS WERE ON STRIKE WHEN WE ARRIVED.  Can you believe?  Must be something in the air!

Heading Back

October 22nd, 2007

A word to the wise?  NEVER travel through Heathrow if you can help it.  What a disaster that place is.  Chaos does not describe it.  In America you are allowed to carry TWO pieces of hand luggage onto a plane.  In England you are allowed to carry ONE!  Why don’t the security people get their acts together and issue common guidelines.  Is it too much to ask?  We had to rush around to buy a larger bag, to put Sandy’s two bags into so that she just carried one bag through security.  How stupid is that? Anway, once aboard the plane, life calmed down…nice long seats, good service, Virgin Airways is a good way to travel!

An old friend passes away.

October 22nd, 2007

I lost an old friend this trip. It was my “Rolly” suitcase that I have had for about ten years.  This suitcase was a beauty, it was rugged, deep and has been around the world (literally) many, many times.

I have rested my head on it and slept away hours when I have been stranded in remote places, I have used it to block rat holes in the walls of my less salubrious hotels, and I have dined off it, and worked off it. We have shared adventures together, too many to recount. The zipper went and it was beyond repair. I bought a new rolly and left my old friend with the sales person.  But I felt like I was betraying and abandoning a friend.  So I went back to the store, collected my old friend, took him back to my room and took a photograph. And wrote this tribute to him.  He appreciated the care and recognition and let me go. It was what was needed after years of faithful service. When I left the room he was fine, so was I because we parted with affection. Sounds odd?  Well that’s just the way it went.

Hangover Day

October 21st, 2007

The morning after the night before!  80,000 fans recovering from “Celebrating” or “Consoling”.  As we left the stadium was surrounded by lines of riot police in full riot gear!  But guess what? There was not a single incident!  Rugby fans are well behaved, unlike soccer fans.  But there was a run on aspirins and bloody Mary’s the next day. We head back to England.  Paris was still frozen because of the transit strike.  Can you believe the Olympic Committee seriously considered giving Paris the Olympics?  Can you imagine the opportunity that would have given the French Union workers?  The mind  boggles!  Of course the Olympics are going to London and the English have their own issues when it comes to Unions as well.  Anyway…everyone was asleep on the train heading back to London…a quiet journey…no one sang “Swing Low!”…buts that’s how they were feeling.
