Black Tie Event

December 31st, 2007

Sandy and I joined friends at the Boulderado Hotel, a fantastic old Cowboy hotel in the middle of Boulder. In Kenya, where I grew up, Christmas was pretty much a “non event” as the weather was always scorching hot, the only snow was on Christmas cards and Turkeys were not around to be eaten. BUT, bringing in the New Year was a major event. My parents would go out in Black Tie and Ball Gowns and not be seen or heard of until the next morning. So I grew up with the idea that to be grown up, one had to wear a black tie at New Year and I have done so ever since.  That is apart from last year when Sandy and I didn’t even make it past 11.30 and fell asleep before the clock struck midnight. This year we made it past 2 a.m.! And a good time was had by all…cant you tell?

Winter Tennis

December 30th, 2007

Tennis anyone? Sandy and I went up to Vail and the snow up there is/was amazing.  We had four feet in the garden. This is good news for skiers, the water table and snow plow operators. It is bad news for tennis players.

The Nieces Go Home

December 29th, 2007

The nieces (plus Mum and Dad) pack up to return to Florida. They had a flight on Transam. It was delayed for 5 hours in Denver. Then, when they reached Atlanta all the connections had left and they were told it would take 24 hours to get them seats onto Florida. So they rented a car and drove the rest of the way. I don’t know about you but I think the airline system in America has BROKEN DOWN.  It no longer works. Old planes, old airports, old radar systems, the entire airline business is a mess. I think the Gov. should let foreign airlines land and pick up passengers for inter city transport. I think Singapore Airlines or Emrit would do a great job. A lot better than Transam and others.

Frosty the Snowman

December 27th, 2007

Christmas is two days past now but our snow-man is still hanging in.  It has been cold enough to keep him happy and us indoors!  It has been a real Colorado Christmas, white, cold and sunny. Ahead lays the New Year Celebrations and then the real world comes crashing in on us all…… To all who read my blog, I hope your Christmas was as fun as ours was.  Our nieces and our grandson “made it for us”.  I hope yours was equally joyful and that Santa was good to you.  Buy truly our real gift this year was having our family close.

Santa’s Dandelion Wine

December 26th, 2007

I guess that Dandelion Wine was too much for him.  I hope we see him next year…..

Lost Reindeer?

Building Frosty

December 26th, 2007

The nieces get to build a snow man.  Their Daddy gets to take their picture. I get to take a picture of the event from the warmth of the house.  Even the snow-man looks happy!
