Sandy At Popeyes |
The road trip is over and we are heading home. One last stop at Sandy’s favorite quick food place….yes POPEYES Chicken is her destination restaurant. I guess it has something to do with being raised in Texas……? She certainly looks happy enough and you know the old saying “
When Momma is happy, then EVERYBODY is happy!”…works for me!

Atlanta Changes |
We move onto Atlanta, and the road trip continues! The sky line is as dramatic as ever, the traffic less so! The economy? It was a noticeable change and there seemed less cars on the road to me, certainly there are fewer SUV’s even though the price of gas has gone down from the stratosphere at which it once rested. No cranes visible as well, and that means no new buildings and that is a sign of the times..

Starlight |
I could not help myself when I saw this restaurant and had to take a picture and describe the thoughts that went racing through my head when I first saw the sign. Here are three sets of cuisine that are all basically curry’s but with subtle differences in ingredients and flavors. They all taste delicious, so food is a truly unifying factor for this region of the world.
But when you consider how India, Pakistan and Bangladesh all have MAJOR DIFFERENCES in their political outlook and have managed to fight numerous wars among themselves in kind of boggles the mind. So similar, so different. If only food was the only thing we argued about, wouldn’t the world be a nicer place?

A Birthday On The Road |
Now it is Sandy’s birthday, and we are on a road trip, staying at hotels.
Still, I don’t let that stop me from celebrating the occasion. I buy a package of balloons and on the morning of her birthday I get up early, blow them up and position them next to her nightstand so it is the first thing she sees when she wakes up. Who says that husbands can’t be inventive and caring???? My only concern was that one of the balloons exploded while I was inflating them, that would have ruined the surprise and given Sandy a heart attack as well….not the best way to start your birthday….

We find ourselves in Connecticut and it happens to be my cousins 67th Birthday. A small group of friends are gather around what I have always thought of as a brilliant kitchen design. It consists of a very large central block table on which you can serve food, read newspapers, serve drinks, put the mail on and even eat a meal basically all at the same time. As I have found that most people spend 80% of their time in the kitchens, even when folks come around to visit, I have always considered this idea of my cousin to be brilliant…..and convenient.

Reflecting on the Entrepreneur of the year event I just have to share one for shot of the limo. It truly was an amazing vehicle. It can hardly be called a truck, although it is certainly longer than one. It is not a car, that’s for sure and you cannot walk around in it so it is not a camping vehicle. But whatever it is one thing is for sure…IT IS IMPRESSIVE!

Acceptance Speech |
Here I am giving my acceptance speech…I thanked the judges, Sandy for all the risks she had taken with me, the staff who remind me that I am lucky that they are so good, when I tell them that I would rather be “lucky than good” and finally I acknowledged the tremendous sense of gratitude that I have to this country that creates the wonderful entrepreneurial environment that allows us to try and fail, and try again and succeed.
It was one of those moments that I will always remember as a highlight in my life…….!

We Have A Winner |
WE HAVE A WINNER! It was a wonderful moment in the history of the company.
The recognition that our all natural, Coopers Iced Brew tea, has made a difference in the world. I may hold the trophy but it is all the folks in the company that deserve the recognition and I hope that I expressed that it eloquently in acceptance speech. I kept it short and sweet…but it was a moment to savor….trust me on that!!

Big Limo |
See what I mean about a long stretch limo…I don’t know how it managed to turn corners, but it did.
