Coming from a land where the Scots, Welsh and English all fly their own flags yet are united under the one “Union Jack” of the “United Kingdom” seeing the Confederate flag flying high does not seem odd to me. Yet you do not see the Confederate flag flying in New York, or Pittsburg etc so the flag is not connected with individuals as are the UK flags, but rather more as regional flag. Having read about the carnage that was the American Civil War it stirs odd emotions when you gaze at the symbol…clearly the war is still remembered..

The constant search for food is an aspect of life that does not really hit one until you sit and watch birds for a while. Their life is a non-stop hunt! Man stopped hunting some time ago but not eating. I wonder how we would do if thrust back into the constant search for food that did not involve a supermarket or a Wal-Mart? We lost the skill some time ago I suspect…birds (and other animals) refine their skills every day. All we have learnt is how to “swipe” a credit card.

One of the issues of buying a house that has been around for a while is that you inherit structures that have been around for a looooooooooooooong time.
A perfect example is this pool cover. It is 100% effective in stopping leaves from falling into the pool and it is always 100% effective in blocking the view! It was an easy decision…its gotta go!

Job complete and what a difference!!! We have a view that extends out into the Gulf of Mexico without interruption…well apart from that little pump house, but he is now on the hit list as well……

My tea can be found in most 7-11 stores around the nation. Actually we can now say my “teas” as we sell more than one type including our Green Tea with Honey and Ginseng and our USDA Organic Unsweet Black Tea, and Our Sweet Tea. The reason for mentioning all this is that the CEO of 7-11 Joe DiPinto is going to be appearing on Oprah on February 1 and in the CBS TV show “Undercover Boss”….On February 21 st the show will feature the CEO working in a store so keep your eyes open for a view of COOPERS ICED BREW TEA”….

The electronic age of printing is upon us and it spells doom for newspapers, magazines and books in the long term…and it may be difficult to define “long term”. Perhaps a matter of years? I have made my book “Silver Spoons, Mad Baboons and other tales of Tea” available in the “kindle” to download from Amazon.com. The iconic picture that was taken in Times Square NY at the end of the second World War (and now thought to be posed) dominates the horizon in Sarasota FLA…..I suppose it makes sense. A lot of the residents or snow birds in Sarasota come from the generation that fought the war and this daily reminder defines their generation. I wonder what my generation will be remembered for….the Vietnam War for sure…the generation that was the first generation that had a real shot at being educated? Looking back I wonder if we made the most of our opportunities…? I know that when I see the sailor kissing the nurse I am looking at a time long gone by….strange in a way because the uniforms have not changed that much…..

Over the years I have commented about the “global warming” or “lack of” and I still don’t know which way to really turn. Is it happening? Is it a myth? Are the scientists scare mongers? Is it going to be a real problem for me and my children. Does anyone care? Nature has a way of answering unanswerable questions sometimes. Or at least, pointing you in a direction.
It has been so cold in Florida over the past two weeks that a lot of the fish are dying! Apart from being a dismal picture, it could also a telling sign …or not! The only animals on the planet happy with this sight were the seagulls. The are FAT and HAPPY birds right now…stuffed to the gills (poor expression that, given the context of the story) and riding low in the water! This is a 20 lb fish that has given up the ghost and succumbed to the chill….

The battle ha
s ended…the victory won…but What a struggle….it took me all of 3 days to rip the tenacious tentacles of the invader off the Palm Tree! It fought back with every ounce of its suckers….it just goes to illustrate that a little vine (or problem) when left on its own can become a major life threatening event. Now there is a lesson from nature!
