The Tea Association has its annual dinner in NYC and it is an occasion when old friends meet up and catch up on what has been going on in their lives. Antonio and Viviana had travelled from Argentina for the event and we had a lot of catching up to do.. I gave Antonio a copy of my book ‘Silver Spoons and Mad Baboons and Other Tales of Tea” and he promised to read it…I told him there would be a test next time we met…..
Good and Green
December 4th, 2008
I am attending the “Good and Green” expo. I wanted to learn about what it takes to make a company 100% Green. What I learned was that it is VERY difficult to achieve that objective and what is almost more important is to take the first step, no matter how small, and keep on going until you have made a measurable difference to the environment. I also learned that one should not make wild claims about being “Green” as they can be seen through and you lose credibility. Green is too important not to be honest about. Baby steps are important. You cannot get there in one giant leap. I learned a lot, it was a very useful conference. I am planning on my company taking these very important baby steps.
Smiling Moose
December 1st, 2008
Heading back to Vail and then onto Boulder. Suddenly on the right of the interstate I see a sign displaying “A Smiling Moose”. We all know (or should) that my tea is served there! An abrupt right hand exit and a very enjoyable quality control exercise followed. The tea was PERFECT, as were the comments on how much it was liked by the customers. What I also liked, is that this sign is on both sides of the highway so that many travelers heading out to the wilds of Utah, Nevada and California are all going to be missionaries for my green tea if they stop at the Smiling Moose.

COOPER TEA AWARDS “LUCKY & GOOD” SCHOLARSHIP TO UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT
LOUISVILLE, COLO. (November 3 2008) - Cooper Tea Company awarded the 2008 Lucky and Good scholarship to CU student Anthony Joseph Gratsch.
Cooper Tea Company co-owners Barry and Sandy Cooper presented the check to Gratsch at a special ceremony at the company’s headquarters held this afternoon. “We’re very impressed with Tony’s dedication to becoming a first-generation college graduate and are proud to be able to support him in that quest,” said Sandy Cooper.
The $5,000 annual scholarship, funded by the Cooper Tea Company, recognizes individuals with non-traditional educational or personal backgrounds who demonstrate perseverance and determination in the pursuit of a college degree.
“The scholarship name is a twist on my favorite mantra: I’d rather be lucky than good,” explained CEO Barry Cooper. “Today I hope that Tony is feeling like he’s got both going for him. He’s a good person and today he had a bit of luck tossed his way.” Cooper, a 2007 and 20008 Rocky Mountain Entrepreneur of the Year finalist, will serve as Gratsch’s mentor during his college career. Based in Louisville, Colorado, the Cooper Tea Company is specialty tea company known for its premium iced teas. B.W. Cooper’s teas are served in over 10,000 restaurants across the country, including Rock Bottom Breweries, Smiling Moose Delis, Heidi’s Delis, as well as The Flagstaff House and many other independent restaurants along the Front Range. Peppermint
October 21st, 2008
One of my business enterprises is a Peppermint operation in the Pacific Northwest. This is one of the most stunning regions to visit because the scenary changes in an amazing sequence of vista’s. Starting at the end, so to speak, you have the verdant fields of mint, stretching before you bathed in sunshine.
