Here is the view from the front steps. It used to be that CU was known as a “party” school, but I think that has fallen by the wayside in the last few years. Certainly the students who attend my lectures are fully engaged. Even though my first talk was at 9 am they showed up. They took notes, and they asked questions.

It’s that time of year again when I go to the University of Colorado as a guest lecturer. This year I am giving the lecture in the brand new business building the “Koelbel Building” It has a very impressive entrance but even more impressive is the view it has from the front steps. It looks straight out at the flatirons. Now THEY ARE awesome!!

And then I heard today that the silly season has reached a new level…
RALPH NADER is going to run again???Frankly I am surprised the guy can still walk, I mean take a look at him…he is older than John McCain! I hope I don’t offend anyone out there, but Ralph has had an every decreasing share of every Presidential election he has run in. Ron Paul, a man of fierce convictions is still picking up 5% of most state elections and Huckabee just wont give in, but I really think it is time for Ralph to hang up his boots as we say in the world of Rugby.

We are in the silly season of Politics. Being in Texas during the “showdown Debate” between “you know who” and the other one,(The one who was not supposed to show up and then when he did he started to win everything) is interesting. The place is abuzz with political opinions. Never has a political event been so closely followed. It all goes back to blackberry’s, texting, utubes, cell phones, computers and 500 channel TV’s. You cannot get away from it. It is everywhere. John McCain seems to have all the Elephants tied up. The Donkeys are still running around braying like crazy.

Valentine’s Day! A day the florists look forward to all year. I made a last minute dash for the florists and managed to snare the last arrangement that had roses in it. Sandy comes from Texas and it would have been perfect if the roses had been yellow but they were red, but I think the more important aspect was just getting the roses in front of the recipient within a reasonable time frame. We went to dinner that night and these girls clearly were out to have a good time…….love the glasses gals….

Here is a close-up of a “talking head”

February 5th, 2008
It’s “Super Tuesday” when a whole load of political decisions are supposed to be made. It is high noon for all the “talking heads”. These are the people who work for the networks and go on and on and on and on, over and over and over again saying the same thing over and over again because they are broadcasted across the country. By this I mean, when it is 6pm on the east coast and workers return home and turn on the TV it is 3 pm on the West Coast, 4 pm in Colorado and we are still at work. So the talking heads can repeat themselves and still be “original” at least 3 times. It is one of the most exciting election seasons ever and there is a huge amount of interest in the results. Personally I prefer to keep my politics like my spiritual beliefs to myself. They are my views, they work for me and that suites me fine and I am not trying to convert anyone. However, I think the talking heads are hysterical. These are basically very smart people who have decided to take up a very stupid role. Just my view.

Today was SUPER BOWL SUNDAY! The New England Patriots had an unbeaten season. They won every game they played in up to the “World Championship”. Facing them were the “New York” Giants. I say “New York” in quotes because they play in New Jersey, pay taxes in New Jersey, and practice in New Jersey. But NJ does not have the same cachet as NY, so they call themselves the NY Giants. The Giants were quarterbacked by a young, untested player, Eli Manning, whose brother Peyton won the super bowl last year, also playing quaterback! It was a great game. The most exciting that I have seen in a long time. The NY Giants were underdogs and they WON!! So the picture reflects the dreams and ambitions of the New England Patriots…RIP guys….to have come SOOOOOOO close to an unbeaton season, then lose! TOUGH!!!

This was a very unusual night. A close friend’s daughter has taken up ULTIMATE FIGHTING as a sport. I have known Jen, his daughter, since she was knee high to a grasshopper. She has chosen a sport where they don’t wear headgear or boxing gloves. They punch, kick, wrestle and basically do what it takes to win. It was Jens FIRST fight so her Dad wanted moral support. Rory and I went to the event. The contestants fight in a closed cage. I forgot my normal camera so I took this shot with my phone. Sorry about the quality. You can see Jen before the fight standing in the cage. The fight was intense but Jens opponent had 6 fights under her belt and was used to the occasion. She got Jen in a headlock and after choking off Jen’s air supply, Jen submitted. I think she will be back however, as now that she is used to all the noise, lights, intensity etc she can concentrate on her opponent. I think it was all TOO intense for a novice. But she has her first fight behind her now, so she will not suffer from “first night nerves” next time.
