1/2 Packed Stadium

March 2nd, 2010

I guess you could call this a poignant shot. Aston Villa lost…so their side of the stadium is totally empty…Man U won so their side is packed with celebrating fans…interesting perspective

March 1st, 2010

We have all heard of rowdy football fans in England so I guess it comes as no surprise that there is line of sturdy attendants that separates the two sets of fans.  It is a clear demarcation mark…on the right are Aston Villa fans on the left Man U.  I wonder if they hurl insults at each other across the guards?

February 28th, 2010

This is one of those weekends you dream about (If you are a guy- type of thing) International rugby on Saturday at Twickenham and a League Cup Final on Sunday at Wembly. Oh happy day! It is Aston Villa playing Manchester United for the “Carling Cup”…what a game! Fast, skilled and totally entertaining. Man U won 2:1 but I think the referee blew a couple of calls to tell you the truth…but refs never get it right do they?

February 27th, 2010

It is not to be! Heartbreak! England are beaten and to make matters worse, Ireland were the better side and deserved the win. With the Rugby World Cup just 12 months away England have a task on their hands. The backs were awful and the scrum was not much better! A sad day. I retire to a pub to nurse my wounds.

Swing Low

February 27th, 2010

The spirit of England is strong and “swing low” the fans rubgby anthem is already being hummed in anticipation.

February 27th, 2010

The day of the game arrives. We trundle along to the home of Rugby— Twinkenham. Our breasts are full of hope that England finally have a back line that will work. We have a great scrum…we need a backline. This day will tell the tale.

Sitting with Royalty

October 20th, 2007

Talk about great seats!!!  We were about 15 feet away from Prince William and Prince Harry.  We had a stellar view of the game and he Princes.. just outstanding! Here they are waiting for the final game of the Rugby Wolrd Cup 2007 to start.  It is a magnificent stadium.the only problem with the evening was that the French Transportation Union chose this time to hold a strike, so the Metro was not working and getting a taxi was murderous!   Helluva time to hold a strike…great timing for the Union workers, lousy for the 80,000 fans who showed up to see the game.  It took us 2 hours to get to the game ..but it was worth it.

The world of Rugby is Upside Down

October 14th, 2007

England won! They beat the French. This is amazing. The Springboks beat the Pumas in the other Rugby World Cup semi-final so South Africa will meet England in the final.

What started out as a enjoyable business trip with a World Cup at the end of it has suddenly turned into something much greater. The chance to watch England defend their world title in Paris.  Life is good!!

A Perfect Weekend

October 6th, 2007

I came to the office to do some work over the weekend. Everything is sunshine and light. So much so that I was inspired to take this photograph of the tree in my office bathed in the suns rays. Why am I so at peace? England beat Australia and France beat New Zealand in the quarter finals of the rugby world cup. I don’t think my weekend could be more perfect. I am going to Europe next week to see the semi-finals on TV and the finals in Paris. Absent the Aussie and the All Blacks. So sad!!! They were both great games, and the right teams won!! Oh yes, SA were lucky..to get through as well! As for Scotland, if they had played the way they did in the last 15 minutes for the entire game, the Argentinians would not have got through to the semis.

Rugby, A Blessing And A Curse

September 15th, 2007

Of course, for all of you who know how much I love rugby today was both a blessing and a curse.  The blessing part was that my youngest son Rory played his first game of rugby at College.  And more importantly he enjoyed it!!!  He played as scrum half and went on in the last 15 minutes and had fun.

The curse part is that England played South Africa yesterday in the world cup and were beaten 36 to ZERO.  My world (and England’s) came crashing down.  How could this be???  They are the current world Champions (that is not going to last much longer) but to not even score a single point?

South Africa was AWESOME!  They played very well indeed.  I get all the games via the internet live on the Setanta live feed so with three games a day over weekend I have been a happy camper watching, and a sad camper knowing England are pretty much a spent force.  It has been a world cup of upsets.  Argentina beats France in the opening game, Ireland has managed to hang on by their finger tips against teams they were supposed to thrash.  It is going to be an exciting month…It goes on until October 20th and the plan is to be in Paris for the final!!!!!

It will be me, Sandy, the All Blacks and somebody else..NOT ENGLAND, THAT IS ALMOST CERTAIN.  My guess is that it is going to be South Africa and they are the only team at the moment that can beat the All Blacks.  The Aussies are good but they don’t have a scrum…so there you have it.  My predication for the world cup and I will go so far as to suggest that SA is going to
